Twelve months ago I was overweight (officially obese), eating all the wrong (but very nice) things and would have struggled to run 100m. I’m middle aged, on blood pressure tables and have a family history of heart disease. All the markers were there and I was blind to the fact I was looking down the barrel of a shortened life expectancy…Twelve months on, I’ve finished the Heart Health Program but I still go the gym three times a week. I’m back to running and off my blood pressure pills. I’m now training for the Mt Stromlo Running Festival 30km run in November and if I survive that, I plan on tackle something that has been on my bucket list for over 30 years, a marathon next April. I’m already running half marathons just for training… Read more
I have found that as my physical health has improved and I have got fitter and stronger, I have also begun to feel that I am more in control over how I feel and confident about what I can do. I think that my mental health has benefited a lot from being fitter and from the feeling of being successful in regard to my health generally. I also think that by being part of the group I have been able to achieve a lot more… Read more
To have an independent and interested person helping you to get better is such a wonderful thing. I talked about all different aspects of life with my Coach and through the Heart Health Program, her dedicated goal setting and advice and being just plain positive, she has made a great difference to me and my life style. I am fitter, happier and more healthy and have rediscovered the value of improved diet and exercise… Read more
I experienced PTSD and it gets really difficult to get motivated. Having that gym membership has done wonders for me, to help me get out of the house and live life again.
Prior to commencing the Heart Health Program, my health was average due to heart condition and knee replacement. Since commencing the program under the Health Coach’s guidance guidance, my health and fitness has improved and now continue to attend gym on a regular basis. Am also watching my diet in an endeavour to maintain a healthy weight. I would certainly recommend others to attend program, the advantages are both physical and mental. It was the best thing I ever did, I think everyone who can do it, should do it.
Being an ADG in the Air Force has previously put me in good stead with fitness, but I have recently let myself go. The Heart Health program gave me the opportunity to train in a great fitness club to get my fitness and strength back, as well as the support of a Health Coach to help guide and motivate me to better fitness, nutrition and health. I lost 10kg in 3 months and my body is making a comeback. I now sleep better, eat better, communicate better, and have been told I am a better person for my efforts. My advice to any veteran that wants to get fit, or get back to the way they used to be is, do it for you, your health, your family, your vanity and sanity. The Heart Health program has helped me to be a better husband, father, grandfather and friend to the people around me – having become fitter, lighter, and feeling happy with what I’ve achieved. With the support of my Health Coach and Nutritionist, I now exercise more frequently and eat a much healthier diet than before. My motivation comes from my family and coach support as well as feeling better about myself. I would certainly encourage all Veterans to participate in either a group or individual program. The benefits are exceptional.

The main thing I got out of the Program is a feeling of just being so much fitter, not just physical but mental as well. It was the guidance that I got from my Health Coach Sonny that was so great and kept me on track. I set goals with Sonny and I’ve met them all. I’ve lost weight, my waist has reduced and my wife says I’m looking so much better. I feel like I’m going to live longer after completing the Heart Health Program.
Speaking for me my general health has never been better, I have more energy and I am able to be more active with my life. I have reduced my Diabetic medication and stopped smoking since starting the program; I would recommend it to anyone. I would like to thank everyone involved in putting this program together.
